International Appalachian Trail The goal of the International Appalachian Trail (IAT) is to extend its trail network to all countries and regions once united by the supercontinent Pangea more than 250 million years ago, when the Appalachian, Caledonian, and Atlas Mountains were formed by earth's plate tectonics.The CWT and Wester Ross Alliance (WRA) have joined with the IAT thus completing another vital link in the chain, when completed it will form the longest hiking route in the World.
